Hello, into the Woods stars and families!

We are so very excited to welcome you to our amazing fall workshop! In just a month from now, we’ll be singing, acting and dancing together, and we can’t wait to get started!

On the first day of the workshop, Monday, October 7, we will be doing auditions to find who will best fit each of the amazing roles in the show.  Everyone will get a lead role, so not to worry – this is just a way of figuring out where your vocal range, favourite dance moves, and character style best fit – everyone will be a star!  We want this to be a fun learning experience for everyone, and there is no need to be nervous or worried – just have fun!

For the auditions, everyone will have the chance to perform a short section of a song from the show, a short scene, and, if we have time, a short dance.

We will teach you the scene and the dance when you arrive, but to make sure that we have enough time for everyone to show us their awesome-ness, we would ask you to spend a bit of time learning the song “There are Giants in the Sky” from the show before you arrive on the first day.  Please find the lyrics, as well as links to Dropbox files that contain the vocal and instrumental music, below.  Everyone will be put into groups of 4 when you arrive at the audition, and each of you in the group can decide amongst yourselves who will sing each of the four equal parts of the song – we will explain where the parts divide when you arrive.  You are welcome to memorize the song, or to bring your lyrics up with you (you will receive your script on the first day, which will have the sheet music in it) – there will be a music stand on stage for this purpose if you would like to use it. The song will be sung to the instrumental version (without words). We recommend that you practice with the vocal version a few times first to get used to the song (the notes, the timing, when to come in, etc.) and then practice with the instrumental version, so that you are prepared to sing to this for the audition. Please feel free to raise or lower the song an octave, if this works better for your voice. There will be one hand-held microphone for the group, which will be passed along from one singer to the next through the song.

Please continue to use the links below to practice with the music from the show once you have received your role, so that you can be confident and ready come show time!

There are Giants in the Sky

There are Giants in the sky!
There are big tall terrible Giants in the sky!

When you’re way up high
And you look below
At the world you’ve left
And the things you know,
Little more than a glance
Is enough to show
You just how small you are.

When you’re way up high
and you’re on your own
In a world like none
That you’ve ever known,
Where the sky is lead
And the earth is stone,
You’re free, to do
Whatever pleases you,
Exploring things you’d never dare
‘Cause you don’t care,
When suddenly there’s

A big tall terrible Giant at the door,
A big tall terrible Giant with a terrible roar.

So you steal some gold and away you go

And you scramble down to the world below
And you’re back again,
Only different than before,
After the sky.

There are Giants in the sky!
There are big, tall, terrible, awesome, scary, wonderful
Giants in the sky!
