Teen Edition
“I can do that!“
Sheila: I have a daughter. She’s nine. She loves me a lot, hates me a lot. And, uh, God help her, she wants to be a dancer.
Diana: What’s so wrong about that? How can anybody in their right mind want to be anything else? I remember I used to stand outside this stage door, and watch the girls come out, and think: “God, can anything like that ever happen to me?” But now I meet somebody, and they say: “Wow, you dance on Broadway? You got somewhere. You’re something.”
A Chorus Line is a stunning concept musical capturing the spirit and tension of a Broadway ensemble audition. Exploring the inner lives and poignant ambitions of professional Broadway performers, the show features one powerhouse number after another, including “What I Did for Love,” “One,” “I Can Do That,” “At the Ballet,” “The Music and the Mirror” and “I Hope I Get It.” A brilliantly complex fusion of song, dance and compellingly authentic drama, the show was instantly recognized as a classic.
This will be our 29th annual “teen” show, for students who wish to pursue their craft at a high level. Although all of our workshops at the Academy are run professionally, this particular workshop will be focussed on training students who may wish to pursue musical theatre as a career, or wish to take their skills to the next level. Alumni of our teen shows over the years have gone on to careers in professional theatre, including the Stratford Festival, Mirvish, and even Broadway.
We very carefully choose our shows for this workshop each year to ensure that there are meaty roles for all of our star performers, a powerful musical score, and excellent dance opportunities, so that all of our cast have the chance to perform as true “triple threats.”
A Chorus Line: Teen Edition is a full-length version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, adapted for performance by high school students with family audiences. Every aspect of the show has been developed specifically for high school performers: dialogue and content are age-appropriate, dance sequences are of a length befitting high school dancers, and allowances are made to feature actors of any race or ethnicity.
Come join us and make life-long friendship connections with other like-minded musical theatre lovers – and have the chance to play the character of your dreams on stage at the Gladstone!
